Problem
This book cover design was created for the book Strange Alchemy, published by the Chemeketa Press. The task was to create a cover design that embodied themes of feminism, surrealism, and futurism. We worked to avoid themes that could lean too-heavily into science fiction or fantasy.
Process
I started my ideation through sketching out ideas on paper. I got a good idea for my basic design after a few rough drafts. I brought my idea into Procreate and created a fully rendered illustration for the front cover. I wanted the cover to look weathered and mysterious. I knew the illustration would be the main focus, so the rest of my design focused on texture. This design was chosen by the Chemeketa Press and will go to print on September 1st, 2026.
